I got my weekly copy of the online newsletter from a genealogy organization I belong to and there was a section about Facebook. The newsletter says, "Social networking sites allow users to interact with each other." Um, well, I think I'm able to interact with people without using Facebook or any other social networking site. I chat online, I write emails, I'm on several email discussion lists and I frequent a number of online forums.
Is there anybody that uses a social networking site who could give me a reason that they are any different than what I already do?

There isn't really any difference except for the fact that you might be able to come in contact with people with whom you were aquainted in the past, who might not be in the forums you frequent. Other than that, it's mostly hype.
That helps. Thanks!
Most folks I'm not in contact with now, but were from the past, are people I don't want to know anyway! LOL!
You get to take quizzes to reveal what action hero your cat is most like and what color of socks best describes your life's experiences. You also get to hear all about the grandchildren of people who made your life a misery when you were in high school and act like you were the best of friends, then hug, poke, and buy virtual drinks for each other.
I reactivated my account and am wasting all sorts of time. Oh, well. I did come across a couple of people I knew in high school, but nobody I was particularly close to. So far, everybody that I have on my friends list is someone that I know from other places online!
